The Commons Library

How we worked with some of the leading campaigning organisations in the world to design and build a bespoke hub for resource sharing for the OPEN Network.

Knowledge is power. Mission driven organisations need a smart way to share learnings and best practices internally and with allies to improve their work and make more change. Off the shelf solutions all have their limits by design so when The Commons — a changemakers’ library supported by the OPEN Network with the aim to build the power and effectiveness of progressive movements across the globe — needed a unique platform built they reached out to DEV.

Following a discovery workshop, DEV distilled the needs for the Commons Library, and modelled the content according to open-standards for article structures. This made creating structured search engine friendly content a core part of the site. The development process ran in an agile style with the OPEN Network tracking progress and having access to the source code throughout. Finally a content management interface and an API was constructed for easy maintenance of the platform.

The Commons Library launched in September 2018 and is now powering the knowledge sharing of the OPEN Network, a group made up of some of the most innovative and impactful digital campaigning organisations around the world such as MoveOn, 38 Degrees, and GetUp! and many more.

If you’re interested in finding out how DEV can build unique online tools for you then we’d love to hear from you.
